Navigating the ember app

A high-level tour of our app and how to navigate.

This guide is a high-level tour of Ember. Almost everything happens in one place — your home screen — so once you find your way around home, the rest of the app falls into place.

Your home screen is your memory archive. It's organized into life eras: Childhood, Teenage Years, Twenties, Thirties, 40-60, and 60+, plus an Ember Radio section. Each era is a row of cards — memories you've already recorded, topics still waiting to be recorded, and a Create Your Own Topic card. Use the era list on the left to jump straight to a chapter.

Tapping a card opens it right where it is:

  1. Tap a topic card to open its Topic card, where you can start the conversation, invite someone else to record it, or add a cover photo.
  2. Tap a completed memory card to open Memory Studio, where you can listen, add photos, and turn the memory into a written story.
  3. Tap the Start card to begin the topic Ember suggests next, or a Create Your Own Topic card to record something that isn't on the list.

Across the top of the screen you'll find everything else:

  • The (rem)ember icon on the far left — tap it any time to come back home.
  • The circle switcher next to it, to move between your circles, plus Add/Manage Circles.
  • A row of the people in your circle — tap someone's photo to view their memories, or tap the plus to Add a person.
  • A language switcher and a light/dark theme toggle.
  • Your profile photo on the far right — tap it to Go to profile, where you'll find your People page, profile settings, and the option to log out.

In the bottom corner, the floating Expand Ember button starts a free, off-the-cuff conversation whenever you feel like talking.

Each area below has its own guide that goes deeper: exploring topics, recording and saving a memory, adding photos, creating stories, browsing your archive, and inviting your family and friends.
