Core Concepts
This guide covers the core concepts and language of Ember. Understanding these will help everything else make sense.
Ember
Ember is a voice guide that helps people record, revisit, and share memories with privacy in mind. Almost everything happens from your home screen, where your memories are gathered into the chapters of a life.
Memory
A memory is a completed, recorded voice conversation about a specific topic. Each memory can include audio, a transcript, a short summary, and any photos you add to it.
Topic
A topic is a curated prompt that gives a conversation focus and direction. Each one is designed to draw out a specific kind of memory, and topics are organized on your home screen by life era — Childhood through 60+.
Circle
A circle is a group of people that helps you organize and share your memories. Every memory belongs to exactly one circle. There are three kinds: Family (your relatives), Affiliation (clubs, organizations, or friend groups), and Self (your private vault, which only you can see).
Story
A story is a piece of writing Ember generates from a recorded memory, in supported languages and styles. Once a memory is recorded, you can generate a story, edit it, and publish and share it, or keep it private just for you.
