Create Your Own Topic
This guide explains how to talk about a memory that might not be covered in our curated topics.
This guide explains how to record a memory that isn't covered by one of our curated topics.
Topics give a conversation focus, but sometimes the memory you want to capture isn't on the list — or you'd simply rather talk freely. For that, every era row on your home screen has a Create Your Own Topic card.
You can also tap the floating Expand Ember button in the bottom corner at any time. Ember follows your lead instead of guiding you through a set topic, so you can talk about a person, a place, a moment — anything on your mind — while Ember listens and asks questions to draw the story out.
When you're done, press End. On the save screen, give the memory a title, choose its era, and set a mood so it files neatly into your archive. Your free conversation is saved as your own custom topic, right alongside the curated ones.
If you'd later like to turn that memory into written stories in different styles, see the guide on creating a story from memories.
