Adding and looking after memories

Upload recordings and transcripts, follow your uploads, and remove or keep memories.

Open your circle in the admin dashboard and choose Memories. You see every story shared with this circle. Search by topic or person, or filter by who recorded it.

Add memories you already have

Choose Add memories, then one of:

  • Upload audio files: recordings of someone telling a story. Each file can be up to 250 MB and 90 minutes long.
  • Upload transcript files: .txt or .md files.
  • Paste a transcript: copy text straight in.

You can also drag files onto the Uploads view. A transcript can be up to 400,000 characters.

Each circle gets a set number of free uploads, and Uploads shows how many you have used. After that, uploading more takes a Group plan, which is not available for Family circles yet.

After an upload, Ember may ask Was someone else asking the questions? Answer Yes, someone was asking if the recording is an interview, or No, it was all the storyteller if one person did all the talking. This helps Ember tell the storyteller’s words apart from the questions. You can choose Not now and answer later.

Follow your uploads

Choose Uploads to see what you have added:

  • Needs your attention lists uploads waiting on you, such as an unanswered question or a file that could not be finished.
  • Import history lists everything you have uploaded and where it is up to.

Transcribing a long recording takes a while. The upload shows its progress until the memory is ready.

Remove a memory from the circle

Open the actions on a memory and choose Remove from this circle. The memory leaves this circle’s gallery but stays in the member’s own library. Only the member can share it back.

If you uploaded the memory yourself, Ember asks you to Take down instead. That removes it for everyone and cannot be undone. A memory the member shared with all of their circles cannot be removed from just this one.

Keep a memory that is scheduled for deletion

If any memories are waiting to be deleted, a Scheduled for deletion view appears, soonest first. Choose Keep to save one for good. Ember may first ask you to rate its topic from 0 (poor) to 4 (great).
